In real life things go wrong. They don't always go to plan. We fall out of #love as quickly as we fall into it. Love can be lost in so many ways and without fail its loss almost always destroys us. But in our #books, everything is a little bit better, a little bit more eternal and 100% less painful.
The reason I write is probably the same reason you #read. When you read a #book your #imagination introduces you to a new world, a world that may be completely different to the one you live in. When you read a book the #author's words bring that world to life. How many times have you read a book or watched a film and found yourself #dreaming about it afterwards? Your imagination making it a reality, at least for a moment. The world the words create is #captivating, it catches your attention and works hard to keep it, your mind living out the character's Happy Ever After. There is only one thing more tantalising than entering someone else's imaginings: CREATING YOUR OWN. When you put pen to paper and create a world it is exhilarating. Every word has meaning. You know every character intimately. You know every #secret, every whisper, every smell, every hidden look; and more so than even the most avid of readers you can get lost inside your creation.
If I'm right and those worlds that fill our books are just a little bit better than this one, the only question left is why. I put it down to the #HEA. Even the books that lack a #conventional Happy Ever After, you know the ones - The Time Traveler's Wife... One Day... - they still have an #eternal happy ending. Our characters might not be together at the end but their #love remains eternal, their love surpasses even their lives, and in a way that too is a happy #ending.
Book #Boyfriends Never Break Your Heart
Our book #boyfriends might disappoint us frequently while we’re #reading, every time they hurt our #heroine or do something that can only be described as downright stupid, but that disappointment is always short lived. In the long run, we still love them. Real people hurt you, it’s a given, but book boyfriends don’t. They can’t or they wouldn’t be our #perfect #heroes.
My #bookshelves are full of #book #boyfriends and even the ones that I’ve not met between the #pages in years, still hold a special place in my #heart. As crazy as it sounds, I still love them and all it takes is a few pages to reacquaint myself with them.
Love Lasts #Forever
In #romance #books love never ends. When the book ends, you know that they will still be together even when they are grey and old. Even when their lives come to an early end, we’re still left knowing that their love continues on. The love written into every #touch, every #word spoken, goes on long beyond the lives of the characters.
She's The You You Wish You Were
So often I find #characteristics in the female #protagonists I read that are exactly who I want to be. They are a combination of the characteristics I #wish I had. Even though they are #faulted, #imperfect, #human, their #strengths are always clear to see and in a way, it’s easy to feel a little bit #jealous. Except that jealousy is short lived, because within the #folds of a book you are able to forget that you are you and at least for a little while you can become them.
You Get To Design Their #Happiness
There's nothing better than guaranteeing that someone else, even if it's someone #fictional, has an amazing life with the person they love. That’s one of the things I love most about being an #author. In the words of Jane #Austen, “my characters shall have, after a little trouble, all that they desire.”
Happily Ever Afters Always Look #Different
Every character has a different happily ever after, like no two people are the same, neither is their two happily ever afters the same. Unlike in real life, where you only get one #HEA if you are lucky, in the #fictional #world you can have a whole #library full, all vibrantly different.
